St. Ambrose Honor Band Nominations

Email me if you’re interested in being nominated for this… this occurs during Spring Break and you’d be responsible for transportation and the $30 entry fee.

Good afternoon, 

I’m excited to let you know that the nominations for the 2023 St. Ambrose University High School Honor Band in Davenport, IA are now open and I invite you to nominate students for this opportunity. The honor band takes place on Saturday, March 18, 2023, with nominations due on Friday, February 10. I would love for you and your students to join us for an enriching day of music making. We know March is a busy time of the year and if you as the director are unable to attend, your students ARE still able to participate if they can find a ride or drive themselves.

The information below provides you with important details about the event and the nomination process.Format:

One band of approximately 80 students will be chosen for the festival.

Conductor for the honor band is Dr. Nicholas Enz (SAU Director of Bands)

Nominations (Due February 10 at 5:00 pm)Nominations may only be made by a student’s band director.

Each school will be allowed to nominate 10 high school students or 10% of their high school band program (whichever number is greater).

Please ensure that each of the students nominated is both interested and available for the entire festival (8:00 am to 8:00 pm).

You will need the following information for each student you are nominating before using the online system (link below). All information provided will be kept private and confidential:

Student first and last name

Student email address (Optional)

Student instrument

Student grade (9-12)

Student previous musical experiences (other honor bands, all-state musicians, private lessons, chair position in band, etc.).

Student T-shirt size

Parent/Guardian first and last name (Optional)

Parent/Guardian email address (Optional)

Your nominations will also a brief assessment of their musicianship. This ranking will remain confidential and not be shared with students and/or parents/guardians. This information will aid in guiding the selection process for the festival.

You will be notified on or before February 12 at 5:00 pm regarding the students who have been selected for participation in the honor band.

The student and the parent/guardian will also receive an email by February 13 with information as to the status of their child’s nomination – either “Selected” or “Alternate” (no student will be identified as “Not Selected”).
